Woodworking
Our highly skilled and dedicated
woodworking team takes the utmost pride in all their work. Each piece of
custom cabinetry whether a console, windchest, swell box or case front,
is designed for each particular instrument and built in our North
Carolina factory. By combining time-honored old world techniques with
modern precision machinery we produce some of the most elegant woodwork
in the industry and we’ll design it all to integrate beautifully into
your existing architecture, whether Baroque, Gothic or Modern. Consoles
and casework are constructed to established exacting standards and
whether we use mahogany, walnut or quarter sawn white oak we only accept
the highest quality lumber from our vendors. All woodwork is hand
selected for grain and color consistency which gives the finished piece
a “well thought out appearance” completing the architectural detail of
the space. We work with each client to provide him or her with an
instrument that is uniquely “his or hers” down to the smallest detail.
All moldings and profiles are reproduced to match the existing theme of
the worship space. The detailed components of our casework and consoles
are built to the highest quality standards and our integrated design
work ensures that your organ will enhance and complement your worship
space. All of our consoles are custom made here in the factory, as is
the casework and all are engineered and built to be not only visually
brilliant but highly durable. Our master cabinetmaker, George Zong, wants to make certain that each instrument has a high degree
of distinction and serve to enhance each unique worship space.
Finishing and
Restoration
We
recently completed construction of a building fully dedicated to
finishing including a brand new state-of the art automotive spray
booth. Being in the heartland of North Carolina’s major furniture
makers, we firmly believe that the accurate process of staining and
finishing the instruments wood components is essential to the visual
quality of the end product. We begin with a multiple sanding process in
which all wood components are both machine and hand sanded. Marty
Lemons, our finishing supervisor, matches the stain and finish of the
organ to blend with the existing structures in the worship area. He
custom mixes and color matches the stains all here at the factory. If
desired by the client, he may use fillers for more of a satin finish.
After staining is complete the woodwork will then be sprayed with a
catalyzed lacquer to guarantee a durable finish.
We have
been so successful in our woodworking and finishing departments that
several churches have asked us to build liturgical furniture for them in
addition to their organ. (i.e. lecterns, altar tables, healing
stations, baptismal fonts, wainscoting, healing stations, enclosed
display cases, etc..) Prime examples of this can be seen at St. Luke’s
Church in Atlanta, GA (Opus 44) and Garden City, New York (Opus 68).
