Anne
Clark Zimmer is a native of Charlotte, N.C. She graduated from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 with a
BS degree in Zoology with thoughts of medical school or working
as marine or wildlife biologist. When she was a senior, a friend
in the school of pharmacy at Chapel Hill suggested that she
explore job opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. The
interview process began and Merck and Company Inc. was the
company of choice for Anne. Their product line was rich and the
company mission had high degree integrity about it. Their
mission statement in sales was "Keep the patients in mind first,
then profits will follow." Unfortunately at that time, it was
extremely difficult for a college grad to break into the
industry. To tide things over until she could get on board with
Merck, she decided for one last getaway and went to wait tables
in Cape Cod. While waiting tables at Chatham Bars Inn in
Chatham, MA, she just happened to pour coffee one morning for
the director emeritus of Merck, a Mr. A.G. Rosengarten of
Philadelphia. One thing led to another and she was hired by
Merck six months later. Her responsibilities at Merck included
marketing, business planning, human resources, sales management,
budgeting and forecasting. She excelled in the industry winning
numerous promotions and recognition over the years. She became a
Regional Director based in Charlotte. Her executive education
focused on business planning and marketing. While she enjoyed
her career, she longed for a more normal pace of life. After
sixteen years, Anne decided to leave the life of selling drugs
and came to work for Cornel Zimmer Organ Builders.
She continues to use many of the skills she learned from Merck
as Vice President of our company and she maintains that the
organ industry is much more complicated than she thought it
would be. Watching these artisans work together to create these
great instruments is fascinating to her. More complicated but
also very rewarding and she is constantly amazed at the skill
and craft of each employee of the company, most especially her
husband's, who just happens to be the man himself, Cornel
Zimmer, her husband of 18 years. She remains very proud of the
accomplishments of the company and is dedicated to ensuring the
company's continued success in building "these works of musical
art."
After work, Anne likes take her two black labs, Luke and B.J.,
down to the lake for evening swims and picnics with Cornel. She
also enjoys reading mainly about history and Southern culture.
She also loves any type of water sport from water skiing to
sailing to most recently, paddling in these finely crafted
wooden canoes that Cornel builds in his spare time. They are
just about as beautiful as the organs he builds and they float!
Cornel and Anne enjoy camping and canoe "expeditions" on the
Atlantic Coast.
