We have experience in building direct electric chests, slider chests and electro-pneumatic chests. After much study and investigation, we have returned to the utilization of unit electro-pneumatic windchests for several reasons. We believe that this type of system allows for more of a variety of wind pressures than other types of windchests. It also allows for more flexibility in design, which can be important in designing chests to be used in large or small spaces. As said before, overcrowding of an organ chamber can result in an organ that will not be easily serviced therefore we focus on designing our wind systems so that they will be easily accessible for future tuning and maintenance. Lastly and most important, we have determined that the unit electro-pneumatic system significantly improves pipe speech contributing to a better tonal quality overall. Our windchests are constructed out of the highest quality of materials to ensure durability. We utilize poplar for the sides and legs for lightness and stability. The faces are of multiply birch to ensure sturdiness and lack of voids. Our goal is to make our windchest lightweight, reliable and service friendly. We employ CNC router technology in preparing highly precise windchest and toe boards. The channels are of PVC pipe that has been proven to stand the test of time. After construction and before wiring all parts are clear coat finished to ensure long-term resilience. Judy Abernathy, in small parts assembly and administration, begins the delicate work of assembling the windchest. We utilize highly durable chrome hairsheep leather for pouches as well as the time tested Reisner chest magnets. Connectorized cable is used for ease of serviceability and installation on site. Muffler covers lined with felt are used to reduce any magnet exhaust noise. Whenever possible we like to use wooden wind trunks for wind stability. Combining old world craftsmanship with state of the art technology produces a product that will give reliable, trouble free operation for many generations to enjoy.
